Pigskin Bloggers was launched by AOL prior to the 2004 NFL season. Run by Jamie Mottram, it gave fans a forum to discuss their favorite teams and the NFL at large. The site gained great popularity as a unique spin on covering the league. It offered analysis on the league with the passion only fans can bring. Based on the site’s success, AOL launched an internet radio show called Pigskin Bloggers Live during the 2004-2005 Playoffs, starring the Pigskin Bloggers. This show eventually grew into Sports Bloggers Live, one of the most popular sports podcasts on the internet.
AOL hired professional bloggers to cover the NFL in 2006, eliminating its need for the old Pigskin Bloggers site. However, regular fans still deserve a voice, and that is why this site continues to exist. The beauty of Pigskin Bloggers is that everybody has an equal voice whether it is a beat writer blogging or the average Joe.
Original Pigskin Blogger, John Butchko, takes over as the site’s second editor for the 2007 season. Pigskin Blogger updates are posted twice per week, on Friday and Monday with pre and post game analysis as well as additional posts when NFL news dictates.
